TV Censorhip question

This is something that has been bugging me for a while now.....how come on TV they censor God but not damn it when someone says God Damnit?

Conspiracy...
They should censor every grunt word.

If there is an absence of a god the entire process of damning something becomes null and void due to the fact that there is no metaphysical being in existence to perform the "damning". So "to damn" means nothing at all which in turn means it is safe to air.

This is there reasoning. Now go forth and spread the word.....

:yesyes:

"God damn" or "God Dammit" isn't censored, it's edited out or dissuaded by corporate policy. The FCC needs to be abolished, but as it exists today, using that term isn't an offense so long as viewers can't provide an argument that it should be. As dumb as it sounds, that's how the FCC operates.

The reason that networks won't air the phrase is because it still offends a lot of people. Networks don't want to deal with that. It's a fiscal matter, not a legal one.

The same goes with basic cable. The FCC has no say in what goes on at MTV, THC, BRAVO, E!, VH1, etc. But nudity and cursing is edited out or avoided because those channels rely on subscription fees AND advertising revenue. Budweiser, GM and General Mills don't want to be caught up in a content controversy. Advertisers determine content. TV and movies are not art, they're business.

same with censoring the word hole in asshole :dunno:

Though really I don't see why the censor words in the first place.

basically I think the whole "censor" bullshit is stupid. You hear the first letter of the word before they bleep it out anyways, so anyone that's old enough to know the words knows what the person said anyways. Makes it all kinda pointless to me don't ya think?

Yep!

Especially when all kids already know the words

Exactly. My two cents? what the hell happened to changing the channel? Parental RESPONSIBILITY?! they do content advisories before EVERY single show they put on the air, and if it mentions something you'd be offended by, switch the channel to any one of the SIX HUNDRED or more channels that you probably have on your tv. It's really not that difficult, so I say they stop blaming the tv networks for THEIR lack of personal responibility

yeah, why do religious people get offended by that? Isn't that how it's supposed to work, you ask God for shit-it's called praying. Or are you just not allowed to do that so other people can here it?

It's the same thing as shouting out Jesus Christ!!! when surprised or angered. Well, don't it make sense that you'd call upon the name of the lord to endow you with calm and tranquility in such a moment? What the fuck is wrong with that?

We don't usually censor programs on our tv network, but I've seen a few censored programs, for the sake of the children

Your loss guys, we have hotties over here ;)

One small problem there. You could swear all day on TV in Sweden and I wouldn't understand a thing said lol. So it is kind of void to move there and be uncensored. At least for me anyway.

It's a shame the BBC and other idiots in the UK are not more like your country's TV channels. Instead the BBC is still stuck in the Victorian times as far as the use of sex and strong language goes. Sweden sounds like it kicks ass on TV but I can't say the same for the UK as it is full of PC mad fools.
